Founded in 1982 Academy Travel is a full service agency specializing in customized travel arrangements for groups. Our typical client is a college or university professor, minister, or institutional travel planner who wishes to organize a travel program for his or her particular group--students, congregation, alumni association, museum--and is looking for something a little out of the ordinary.
Julene is the “founding Mother” of Academy
International Travel Services, Inc. In 1982 she organized Academy Travel to address what she
saw as a real need at that time—custom designed educational programs to
colleges, universities, churches, and museums. Now, almost 40 years later,
Academy Travel produces between 25 and 30 customized educational travel
programs each year—all over the world. Julene and her historian-archaeologist husband Max Miller are especially well known for their educational tours to “off the beaten track” places.
Diane came to Academy Travel in 1999 after over 2 decades working in a church setting—first as a preschool teacher and then as the church financial administrator. A long-time friend of Julene, she quickly said yes when offered the chance to join Academy Travel. Diane has traveled extensively with her family—three generations—what an amazing time. Through the years, she has worked closely with each unique group, handling all the financial details and serving as the go-to person for all things “insurance.” Although beginning a leave of absence in February, she continues to be a part of the Academy Travel family.
Stacy has been in the travel business for 31 years. The first nine years with American Express Travel working at their main location in Norcross, GA, and also at three of their on-site accounts: Coca Cola, Prudential, and CARE (Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere). She joined Academy Travel in 1998 booking flights for the groups. She lives in a small cabin in the north Georgia mountains with her husband, 8 dogs, a pot-bellied pig, an Eclectus parrot, and chickens.
Eric Moore comes to us from the world of academia. He has taught at various institutions including his alma mater, Emory University (PhD, 2017). His book, Claiming Places, traces origin stories in the ancient Mediterranean world. Despite the countless hours spent in the classroom and library, some of Eric’s most formative learning has taken place while traveling. Particularly enlightening trips include archaeological digs and seminars in Bulgaria and Turkey, respectively, and summer stints in Spain, China, and Jordan. At Academy Travel, Eric creates customized group programs for clients who also wish to experience “learning through travel.”
An avid traveler, Sean comes to us with over 25 years of marketing, project management, and operational experience in the information technology and healthcare fields. No stranger to Academy Travel, he was responsible for developing our website and registration system which he is currently upgrading. Sean oversees daily operations and marketing efforts while assisting travelers with their customer service needs. Sean's last adventure was exploring the Christmas markets in Vienna, Bratislava, and Prague. He looks forward to traveling again and is planning on visiting Istanbul and Croatia.
